Weatherization Assistance

As our energy resources dwindle, fuel costs keep rising. Fuel is use in the generation of electricity and the movement of natural gas to households. Therefore, customers bill are increasing. So how do we respond to the challenge? We make the most of what we have - we conserve.

The Weatherization Program performs minor repairs to the homes of qualified persons, especially the elderly and handicapped in of Orleans Parish, so that energy might be conserved. This program is designed to effect savings on gas and electricity expenditures by stopping air infiltration and heat loss. Repairs performed include weather stripping of doors and windows, glazing window lites, changing weatherboards, insulating attics and crawl spaces and repairing broken windows and holes in floors. Only essential, non-cosmetic repairs are permitted by law. All services are performed at no cost to the recipient. The applicant must meet the LIHEAP guidelines.

The Weatherization Program helps people to better help themselves by showing them how basic repairs and routine maintenance can lower their monthly energy costs, while improving the comfort levels in their homes.
