Helping to connect low income, unemployed and under-employed persons to family supporting opportunities

Head Start

Head Start is a child and family development program that provides services and experiences to promote the growth and development of the family with special emphasis on a comprehensive range of services to the family's 3 and 4 year old preschool children, including children with disabilities

To learn more about the Head Start Program and the location of a center in your area, call the Head Start office at
309-3510 weekdays between 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The services include health (medical and dental), social services, mental health services, nutrition services and early childhood education to promote the growth and development of each child socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually. Families are provided experiences and services geared toward removing barriers to social and economic self-sufficiency and opportunities for full participation in all aspects of the program.

Head Start helps parents to better help themselves by encouraging their full participation in the early development of their children and assisting in their development of enhanced parenting skills.

TCA operates 8 Head Start Centers throughout the New Orleans area, 5 delegate centers, 5 Early Head Start Centers and 2 child care partners. TCA is also involved in a Fatherhood initiative.
