Energy Assistance
The primary goal of the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is to assist eligible households by providing a direct payment to their active energy accounts. This assistance is designed to help increase their energy self-sufficiency and reduce their vulnerability to fluctuating energy costs. The applicant must meet the LIHEAP guidelines.
If eligible, households can be certified every six months. Energy payments are based on family size, energy usage
and income at the time of certification. Special emphasis is given to households with elderly (age 60 and above), the disabled and children age 5 and under.
A household can also receive "crisis assistance" in situations that effect health and/or safety. The LIHEAP program also wants to conserve energy and reduce energy costs through weatherization of dwelling units.
The program operates Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. For further information, please call 504-324-8609
