POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Adult Basic Education Teachers 2 Positions (1 Full-Time and 1 Part-Time)

REPORTS TO: Center Supervisor

SUMMARY OF JOB:
To teach secondary level students (usually grades 7 through 12) in one or more academics, vocational or technical subjects.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Plans and develops course study according to curriculum guidelines of local school districts and state requirements.
  2. Develops and presents specific lesson plans using a variety of techniques.
  3. Test students with the TABE test to determine their academic levels.
  4. Conducts standardized tests in accordance with district policies and state law.
  5. Maintains order in classroom.
  6. Counsels students with academic difficulties.
  7. Keeps records of academic performance attendance and social
  8. Confers with local districts and state when students have tested for final testing by the state upon completion.
  9. Prepares monthly reports on student's progress.
  10. Makes recommendations to improve problems areas.
  11. Assists in the coordination of GED sites events.

QUALIFICATIONS
A Louisiana certified teacher with a pre-k 8 certification, ABE certification or certification ELA and reading. 2 years experience in adult education or literacy tutorial preferred. Master degree is highly desirable. Some experience in working at a neighborhood school with varying school population is favorable. Must be willing to work at multiple sites as assigned.

NOTE:
Adult Basic Education (ABE) Program is to provide instruction in basic skills of reading, writing and mathematics to adult learners in order to prepare them for transitioning into the labor market or higher academic or vocational training. TCA ABE program will provide instruction in basic academic skills and GED preparation. English Literacy may be provided according to the needs of the community.

SALARY:
$20.00 per hour (Full-Time)
$15.00 per hour (Part-Time)

POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Assistant Teacher 1 Full Time Position

REPORTS TO: Special Projects Coordinator

SUMMARY OF JOB:
To reinforce skills introduced by the instructor using examples and manipulative, visual, and auditory devices. To assist teacher in carrying out the classroom duties, offering individualized help as needed by students.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Helps with all aspects of the daily routine, including distributing and collecting supplies, keeping attendance records, and grading quizzes as assigned.
  2. Follows directions of the supervising teacher in offering one-on-one assistance to students who need extra help.
  3. Assists the teacher in keeping order or handling emergency situations according to program policies.
  4. Follows up with students who are having academic difficulties or expresses a need for assistance.
  5. Assists with record keeping of academic performance, attendance, and social acclimation.
  6. Assists students with the identification of core services provided within the TCA Agency and external community services such as energy assistance, weatherization, Head Start, Earn Income Tax Credit, Individual development Account, Job Placement, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor Degree with sufficient credits for State accreditation as an Elementary or Secondary school teacher. Supportive approach to learning, especially when dealing with students with developmental problems, emotional problems, physical limitations, or learning disabilities. Ability to remain calm in a very busy or emergence situation. Desire to work with students of all age groups who demonstrate the wiliness to learn, i.e. school dropouts.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Drug Education Prevention Teacher Aide After School Program 1 Part-Time Position

REPORTS TO: Center Supervisor

SUMMARY OF JOB:
To have a strong desire to assist school age children and making education and good behavior high priorities.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assists and support tutoring activities.
  2. Assists and support alternative activities.
  3. Attends field trips
  4. Assists with homework assistance.
  5. Keeps attendance records.

QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma. Some classroom experience. Beginning teacher preferred.

SALARY:
$11.25 per hour
20 hours per week
