ABOUT TO TOTAL COMMUNITY ACTION, INC. (TCA)

Total Community Action, Inc. is a non-profit community agency whose mission is to reduce poverty in our community (New Orleans) through collaboration with other agencies and by providing human services, experiences and opportunities that move persons from poverty to self-sufficiency. TCA provides Early Head Start and Head Start Services in ten centers located throughout Orleans Parish. Applicants for the positions below must able to successfully pass a Child Care Background Check (CCBC) and physical and drug screenings.

Total Community Action, Inc. currently has vacanc(ies) for the following positions:

Head Start Center Manager

The Early Head Start/Head Start Center Manager oversees the overall management of the Early Childhood Education Center, including supervising Head Start and Early Head Start education staff and custodial and food service staff. Responsibilities include: educational leadership, oversight of the facilities, and ensuring that center operations meet agency, federal, state and local requirements, including licensing, Head Start, accreditation, contractual and other standards.

Education, Knowledge and Skill Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or equivalent field from an accredited institution. Post-graduate credentials or training preferred: CLASS, Teaching Strategies GOLD, Infant-Toddler Credential; Working knowledge of Creative Curriculum preferred. A minimum of 5 years’ early childhood education program experience required. A minimum of 3 years’ experience in in a Head Start or Early Head Start program preferred. Effective interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and follow-through on tasks; Proficiency in preparing accurate reports, analyzing data and interpreting information.

SALARY RANGE: $45,000 – 60,000 annually plus a generous benefits package.

Head Stat Center Supervisor

The Center Supervisor is a member program management team, providing supervision and support in the day to day operations and programmatic operation of the center. This is an Emergent Leader position in the agency’s leadership development model.  The Center Supervisor supports the delivery of high quality, integrated, seamless services for children and families.  The Center Supervisor assist and supports  the Center Manager in monitoring compliance with federal, state and local mandates and guidelines in accordance with Head Start Program Performance Standards, and Louisiana Department of Education.

Education, Knowledge and Skill Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or equivalent field from an accredited institution. CLASS, Teaching Strategies GOLD, Infant-Toddler Credential; Working knowledge of Creative Curriculum preferred. A minimum of 3 years’ early childhood education program experience required. A minimum of 2 years’ experience in in a Head Start or Early Head Start program preferred. Effective interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and follow-through on tasks, and commitment to continuous growth.

SALARY RANGE: $42,000 – 48,000 annually plus a generous benefits package.

Head Start Teacher

The TCA Head Start Teacher provides instruction and supervision in a safe and healthy learning environment for Head Start children. Provides and coordinates education services; works in partnership with parents to promote the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of Head Start children. Encourages parent involvement in all aspects of the program. Implements classroom curriculum to provide learning opportunities for individual child goals, provides on-going assessment on progress and facilitates transition to kindergarten. TCA Head Start teachers work toward compliance in all facets of Head Start program performance standards and regulations.

Education, Knowledge and Skill Requirements: Education: Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college with an early childhood education major or related field required; 18 early childhood education course work focus on children up to age five (5) preferred; or any equivalent combination of experience and education that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Selected applicants with Associates Degree must be agreeable to pursuing a bachelor’s degree within 6 months of hire. Bilingual in English and Spanish desired, but not a requirement.  Computer literacy required. Physical capability, strength and coordination adequate work with preschool children.

SALARY RANGE: $32,800- 40,100 annually plus a generous benefits package.

Head Start Assistant Teacher

The TCA Assistant Teacher assist the program in providing quality early childhood education services (literacy, learning and personal care) to preschool scholars in accordance with the Head Start Performance Standards and agency policies. The Assistant Teacher assist in the planning and implementation of daily educational activities for the preschool-aged children in the Head Start Program. Provide supervision, personal needs (including hygiene and nutrition) and other related duties assigned by the Head Start Teacher.

Education, Knowledge and Skill Requirements: Education: High school diploma, with Child Development Associate credential with preschool endorsement. Selected applicants with child acre experience and without the CDA must agree to acquire the CDA within 12 months of hire. Bilingual in English and Spanish desired, but not a requirement. Computer literacy required. Physical capability, strength and coordination adequate work with preschool children.

SALARY RANGE: $23,275-31,000 annually plus a generous benefits package.

Early Learning Teacher

The Early Head Start (EHS) Teacher is responsible for communicating effectively with infants, toddlers, their parents and other staff. The EHS Teacher properly addresses the developmental needs of infants and toddlers. The Early Learning teacher is responsible for direction and overall supervision of a group of four (4) infants, and toddlers. (6 weeks to 3 years) Performs activities that ensure the health, safety, involvement, and creativity of each individual in the group. Works with team teachers to plan, discuss and implement daily plans in accordance with the curriculum. Demonstrate knowledge of the Head Start Performance Standards policies and procedure.

Education, Knowledge and Skill Requirements: Education: High school diploma, with Child Development Associate credential with infant/toddler endorsement. Selected applicants with child care experience and without the CDA must agree to acquire the CDA within 12 months of hire. Bilingual in English and Spanish desired, but not a requirement. Computer literacy required. Physical capability, strength and coordination adequate work with preschool children.

SALARY RANGE: $23,130–$29,000 annually plus a generous benefits package.

Family Advocate

The Family Advocate supports the Head Start recruitment and enrollment processes, and works with families to ensure that Head Start program services and community resources are available to enrolled children and their families.

The Family Advocate assist families in setting and achieving individual family goals; and linking families with appropriate community resources to meet those goals.

Education, Knowledge and Skill Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree Social Work, Counseling or related field with a minimum of two years’ experience working with high risk families. Family Development Associate credential, Family Centered Coaching experience desired.

SALARY RANGE: $36,800 – 44,200 annually plus a generous benefits package.

Food Services Technician

The TCA Head Start Food Services Technician is responsible for all kitchen processes that lead to the proper preparation and distribution of meals in accordance with Head Start Performance standards, CACFP and regulatory requirements.  The Food Service Technician is an active member of the Head Start center’s team. The Food Service Technician must capable of lifting and moving 20lbs constantly and 50 pounds or more occasionally.

Education, Knowledge and Skill Requirements: Education: High school diploma, and one-year experience preparing food for large groups, ServSafe certification desired, selected applicants must be willing to pursue the certification within 6 months of employment.

SALARY RANGE: $ 23,275 – 26,500 annually plus a generous benefits package.

Custodian I

The TCA Head Start Custodian is responsible for cleaning/sanitizing and minor maintenance for classrooms, offices, common areas, of the center. The Custodian will ensure that utilities, equipment, fixtures, and grounds, are operative.  The Custodian will follow health and safety procedures and perform safety inspections and checklists to ensure facility and grounds are hazard free, clean and sanitized. The Custodian must capable of lifting and moving 20lbs constantly and 50 pounds or more occasionally.

Education, Knowledge and Skill Requirements: Education: High school diploma, or equivalent (GED or HiSet) and one-year of janitorial or maintenance experience.

SALARY RANGE: $ 23,275- 26,500 annually plus a generous benefits package.

Parent Liaison (1 position)

The Parent Liaison is a dedicated member of the Head Start program staff who assist parents to navigate the La. Coordinated Enrollment process (ONE APP), the Child Care Development program (CCAP) application processes and to access information and assistance they need to support their children at home and to ensure their children’s success in school.

Education, Knowledge and Skill Requirements: Education: High school diploma, Associates Degree preferred. Computer literacy required. Customer oriented attitude, with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Bilingual in English and Spanish desired, but not a requirement.

SALARY: $28,080- 30,160 annually plus generous benefit package
